It's nice to see a slimy tabloid forced to not only tell the truth for once but also to apologize for it's lies. So read this and smile: Star Magazine Apologizes to Katie Holmes for ‘Drug Shocker’ Story.

They tried to ignore the $50 million law suit that Katie Holmes brought against them, saying, back in March, “Star fully stands behind the editorial integrity of what we have published.” Editorial Integrity??? An oxymoron if ever I heard one, and doubly so when applied to a rag like Star.

Yes, they tried to ignore it, but the case was just too strong and now they are eating crow and begging to be left alone. Part of the settlement is for them to publish a retraction of the original story and so, on the cover of this week's issue is a picture (a very attractive one) of Katie and beneath it are these words: "In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about Katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs. Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for a drug addiction. Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused."
A "substantial donation", eh? Well I hope it is VERY substantial. Scum like the people who publish Star should be made to pay big time for the constant malicious gossip and character assassination they traffic in whilst hiding behind the right to freedom of speech. As if what they publish has anything to do with that particular and very important right.

Anyway, I hope Katie's success will encourage other celebrities to take similar action next time they are slimed by a rag like Star. It would be nice to see a bankruptcy announcement on the front cover instead of the usual gossip.
